Jog-A-Thon

The kids school has a once a year Jog-a-thon that raises money for field trips.  Most of the kids at their school are low income and almost at poverty level so their family can't afford for extra fun things like field trips.  So they raise money.  The day started out with each kid getting a t-shirt so they could wear not only when they run but when they go on field trips.  Coming from where we have to buy our kids school t-shirts I thought this was a wonderful blessing.
Hannah had ran 17 laps last year and Marchal ran a smaller one half the distance and ran 30 laps.  So they had a goal. The boy and girl who run the farthest get their picture taken and put up in the office.  This has been a goal of Hannah's for a full year.  I showed up to watch both of them and was very proud of them both.  They run for 45 minutes, some walked.  Hannah ended up running 16 laps and would have ran more but she saw a friend who was having trouble and she grabbed her hand and walked then ran with her.  I think that was my proudest moment.  Marchal ran later in the day and about 30 minutes into his run it started raining.  Needless to say he and most of his classmates were covered in mud afterwards.  Marchal ran 13 laps.  Four laps equals 1 mile so Hannah ran 4 miles and Marchal ran 3.25.  I think we have a family of runners.  Hannah also found out a couple of weeks ago that in 6th grade she can join the cross country team at her school.  Now she has a new goal to look forward to.
We don't know who won yet but hopefully we will find out soon.  I will update you all as soon as I know.

Hannah and her friends, including the friend she helped, Hannah and her dear friend Mandolin

ready set go, Hannah showing her bracelet with her laps, me and my special girl.

Marc's office sponsored the shirts, Hannah marking Marchal's laps, and when it started to rain.
